Helen Thompson breaks Junior World Record

Congratulations to Helen Thompson on breaking the Down Syndrome World Junior Record in the 200 metres Individual Medley at the 2019 Essex Championships over the weekend. Her time of 3:37.01 beat the previous record by 2 secomds.
The Presidents Sporting Club and Essex Disabled Sports Foundation have been proud sponsors of Helen throughout 2018 and we are delighted to be able to continue our sponsorship in in 2019.


Helen Thompson competes at the Down Syndrome Swimming World Championships

Helen Thompson was an award winner at our Sports Awards Lunch last December and after meeting her it was decided that The Presidents Sporting Club and Essex Disabled Sports Foundation would sponsor her swimming training programme to help her to reach her full potential.

This week Helen has been competing at the Down Syndrome Swimming World Championships in Canada and we were delighted to learn that she has been crowned Junior World Champion in 50m breaststroke and also won the bronze medal in the 25m butterfly.

Stort 10 & 5 Mile Run

On Sunday 1st July Bishops Stortford Running Club held their Stort 10 & 5 Mile run with the profits of the event being donated to The Presidents Sporting Club/Essex Disabled Sports Foundation. Presentations to the runners were made by Peter Shilton and Paralympic Gold Medallist Noel Thatcher.

Mike Jackson wins Points of Light Award

 

We are delighted to announce that our Chairman, Mike Jackson MBE, has been awarded the prestigious Points of Light award by The Prime Minister. The award recognises outstanding individual volunteers who are making a change in their community .

Frank Bruno's Great North Run

Congratulations to our President, Frank Bruno, who ran in The Great North Run on Sunday to raise funds for The Presidents Sporting Club. Frank's run was featured in The Daily Mirror:

Boxer Frank Bruno signed autographs and posed for selfies at the start with his fans. Raising money for the Presidents' Sporting Club, and handicapped children, he said: “I have done half marathons all over the country, but I really enjoy this one. The money will help disabled kids around the UK, and across the world.
